Rear Tuck

Or, why racing Spitfires need some sort of rear suspension control.

Here is a really nice image of why racing Spitfires need some way to control the rear camber and 'tuck in' tendency of the rear suspension.

Goof for this guy for hanging in there but he is getting awfully close to the full 'jacking effect'. Which is an  uncontrollable snap spin.

Love the vette and healey in the background.

I was thinking about suspension because I just order a full bushing, brake and front shock bits for my 63 Spitfire. As soon as the thaw hits, I can get to work.

Broken Back

Seriously. This happened three weeks ago but only had the courage to post today. A good friend. Who is still a good friend. Was sharing the Spit with me and it got away from him at turn 3 at Limerock.

All sheetmetal damage. No frame work. But the repairs and time off track will add up. Will try to improve car while we are fixing. For now she sits in the barn waiting.

Reflecting on Livery

The livery application going well except large hood one. Buggered that. But this door looks straight outta the 60s.

Livery Love (Hate)

Here is a pic from about 8 years ago of the Spitfire racing.

Notice the striped livery. Seriously. Ugh. Almost kept me from purchasing.

Because unlike any other racing, the aesthetics of the car matter in vintage. It is as much paddock eye candy as it is on track tool. You've got to look the part - or at least I do.

The only reason I could see coming up with this scheme is that a significant other. Maybe a spouse, was always lamenting how difficult it was to find the car on track. Or, they are the old owner's prep school colors.

I also personally really associate BRG and Yellow with Lotus. So, on another marque, it rings hollow to my ears.

So, this coming weekend I hope to debut some new livery shots. New seat. New rondels.

Craigslist Gem

This entry really has everything I look for in a Craigslist post. A barter option. A unique car. Confusing pictures.

Ok, I clicked through because of the TR3 in the ad. But wow. Trade for a Yamaha piano? And what is a TR3 Harley Davidson special?

The car picture is also taken in front of a hot dog shaped hot dog stand in Bailey, Colorado for a little bit of roadside America tastiness.

And the final bit of greatness here, the "Philly Kid" nickname given by no less than Sinatra.
